Anti-Semitic Slur Directed at Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy During Toronto Pizza Review
Sports media figure Dave Portnoy confronts anti-Semitic slur during Toronto visit, highlighting rising hate incidents and the fight against bigotry.

Sports media personality Dave Portnoy faced a deeply troubling incident during a recent trip to Toronto when he was targeted by an anti-Semitic slur. Portnoy, widely recognized for his influential presence in sports media and his entertaining pizza review series, was in the city to attend a Bitcoin conference. While filming one of his signature One Bite pizza reviews at Terrazza on Harbord Street, Portnoy found himself at the center of controversy after an individual shouted an explicit anti-Jewish remark.
The incident unfolded just as Portnoy prepared to sample and rate his pizza, an activity that has garnered him millions of online followers. Clearly taken aback, Portnoy responded with visible dismay, uttering, “There we go,” as laughter erupted from several nearby youths. Not willing to let the moment pass quietly, Portnoy confronted the group, sharply asking, “What are you guys f****n laughing about?” The lighthearted atmosphere of the review quickly shifted into a tense exchange, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Portnoy’s Toronto-based companion, Bill the Greek, also condemned the behavior, calling it “terrible” and alluding to the negative impression it left. Despite the upset, Portnoy remained composed enough to finish his pizza review, ultimately awarding the local establishment a score of 7.4. The video has since been viewed approximately 130,000 times online, sparking conversation among fans and viewers.
This disturbing episode is not isolated. Just last month, Portnoy publicly expressed outrage after learning that a similar anti-Semitic message had appeared at one of his Barstool-branded pubs in Philadelphia. Deeply affected by the discovery, Portnoy declared, “You think I’m going to put up with this s**t at my bar?” Vowing to hold those responsible accountable, he initially offered a controversial proposal to send the alleged perpetrators on an educational trip to a Nazi concentration camp—an offer he later retracted amid disputes over accountability.
As anti-Semitic incidents appear to be on the rise, Portnoy has become increasingly vocal about the need to confront such hatred directly. Reflecting on the recent spate of bigotry, he commented, “The uptick in antisemitism has been noticeable.” The events in Toronto serve as another stark reminder of the challenges faced by Jewish public figures and communities, both online and in real-world interactions.
While Portnoy has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the Toronto incident, the episode has prompted widespread condemnation and reignited conversations around combating hate speech in public and digital spaces.
