Boulder, Colorado Terror Attack Suspect Mohamed Sabry Soliman Faces Murder and Assault Charges

The city of Boulder, Colorado, is reeling after a violent incident over the weekend that federal officials are calling a “targeted terror attack.” Authorities say that Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, unleashed chaos Sunday afternoon on a downtown pro-Israel gathering, seriously injuring several attendees. The group, assembled as part of the “Run for Their Lives” campaign, was advocating for the release of Israeli hostages reportedly held by Hamas when the attack occurred.

According to investigators, Soliman approached the peaceful demonstration near Pearl Street and began his assault by setting multiple individuals on fire, leaving eight people between the ages of 52 and 88 with various injuries. At least one victim remains in critical condition. First responders raced to the scene after receiving frantic reports of a weapon-wielding assailant targeting members of the crowd.

Soliman now faces a battery of charges, including first-degree murder—deliberation with intent, first-degree murder—extreme indifference, crimes against at-risk adults and elderly, first-degree assault, criminal attempt to commit class one and two felonies, and use of explosives or incendiary devices during a felony. Law enforcement confirmed that Soliman, identified as an Egyptian national, was residing in the United States illegally. He is currently being held at the Boulder County Jail on a $10 million bond, booked late Sunday evening, with no fatalities yet reported as of Monday morning.

"We are aware of and fully investigating a targeted terror attack in Boulder, Colorado," said FBI Director Kash Patel in a public statement. "Our agents and local law enforcement are on the scene already, and we will share updates as more information becomes available."

Boulder Police described the moment of Soliman’s arrest, noting that he was detained after sustaining minor injuries and subsequently taken to a hospital. Witnesses reported hearing the suspect shout “Free Palestine” as he attacked the group, further fueling concerns about the event’s political and ideological motivations. The FBI’s Deputy Director characterized the incident as “ideologically motivated violence,” based on evidence collected so far and preliminary witness interviews.

The “Run for Their Lives” group, known for its weekly gatherings calling attention to the plight of hostages held by Hamas, has been left shaken and grieving. Local and national leaders, along with Jewish organizations, have issued statements condemning what they have labeled a “horrifying act of terror” and an expression of vile antisemitism.

As the investigation continues, federal and local authorities are urging anyone with information or additional video footage of the incident to come forward. Security remains heightened in downtown Boulder as the community processes the aftermath of this shocking attack.
