Breaking News: Sixth Fugitive from New Orleans Jailbreak Apprehended in Baton Rouge

Authorities confirmed Monday that one of the five fugitives who remained at large after a recent escape from a New Orleans jail has been apprehended. Lenton Vanburen was located and arrested in Baton Rouge, according to an announcement by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.

Vanburen is now back in custody following his capture. He had originally been incarcerated on several charges, including parole violation, possession of a firearm by a felon, and illegal carrying of a weapon. Attorney General Murrill emphasized that Vanburen will now face additional charges linked to his escape from the Orleans Parish jail.

The brazen jailbreak took place on May 16, when ten inmates managed to flee from the facility in a coordinated escape. Since the incident, law enforcement agencies have been actively searching for the remaining fugitives, issuing warnings and requesting public assistance in their capture. With Vanburen now in custody, four inmates remain at large.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of the remaining fugitives to contact law enforcement immediately. The search continues as investigators look to determine how the escape was orchestrated and whether there was any assistance provided from within or outside the jail.
