Capybara on the Loose! Zoo Offers Reward for Missing Animal

The Zhuyuwan Scenic Area in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, has become the center of attention after a capybara named Doubao made a daring escape from its enclosure. The incident took place on April 3, when Doubao and two other capybaras, Bazong and Duoduo, managed to break out. According to surveillance footage, Bazong played the role of the ringleader, smashing through a wooden barrier and allowing the group to slip away.

Zoo officials responded swiftly, reinforcing all enclosures with additional protective nets to prevent similar escapes in the future. Despite their best efforts, only Bazong and Duoduo were recaptured and safely returned. Doubao, however, remains missing, prompting both concern and curiosity among local residents as well as animal lovers across social media.

In an effort to bring Doubao home, the scenic area authorities have issued a “reward notice,” offering free zoo admission to anyone who provides credible information that leads to the animal’s recovery. “Doubao is friendly and gentle, but may be frightened by unfamiliar surroundings,” a staff member noted as teams continue their search in and around the park’s lush landscapes.

The public is urged to keep an eye out for Doubao, a one-and-a-half-year-old capybara that has quickly gained online fame as the internet’s most wanted rodent. The zoo’s creative approach—turning the hunt for Doubao into a community event—has sparked enthusiasm among visitors of all ages, many of whom are now eager to spot the elusive capybara. As the search intensifies, one thing remains clear: Doubao’s safe return is a top priority, and the next person to provide a meaningful clue may find themselves enjoying a special day at the zoo.
