Capybara on the Run: Zoo Offers Reward to Find Missing Animal
Yangzhou's Zhuyuwan Scenic Area offers free zoo tickets for clues in missing capybara case

Excitement and concern are growing in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, following the unexpected escape of a young capybara named Doubao from the popular Zhuyuwan Scenic Area zoo. The incident, which occurred on April 3, has captured the interest of local residents and animal lovers across the country, as the search for Doubao enters its second month.
According to staff at the scenic area's zoo, the capybara—aged just one and a half years—managed to flee alongside two of its companions, Bazong and Duoduo. Surveillance cameras captured footage of Bazong boldly smashing through a wooden panel in their enclosure, paving the way for the trio’s daring breakout. Zoo officials moved quickly to enhance security measures, installing protective nets and reinforcing all enclosures in an effort to prevent further incidents.
While Bazong and Duoduo were successfully located and returned to the safety of their habitat, Doubao remains missing. In a creative move to encourage public participation, the zoo issued a “reward notice” offering complimentary tickets to anyone who can provide valid information leading to Doubao’s recovery.
The community is now on high alert, with visitors and locals alike keeping their eyes peeled for any sign of the elusive rodent. The “capybara on the run” has even become something of a celebrity online, as social media users share updates, memes, and calls for assistance with the search.
Zoo management emphasized that Doubao is not considered dangerous, but they hope for his safe return as soon as possible. The animal’s absence has left a noticeable gap in the attraction and touched the hearts of those who regularly visit the capybara enclosure. Anyone with information is urged to contact the zoo, with the promise that your next trip might be free if you can help bring Doubao home.
