Chicago Memorial Day Weekend Violence Leaves 22 Shot and 2 Dead in Bloody Shooting Spree
Memorial Day weekend violence in Chicago leaves 22 injured and 2 dead amid ongoing gunfire crisis.

Chicago endured a violent Memorial Day weekend, with 22 people shot throughout the city, including two fatalities. The surge in gun violence once again put a spotlight on long-standing concerns about public safety and crime rates in the nation’s third-largest city.
According to authorities, one of the fatal shootings took place Saturday afternoon in the Logan Square neighborhood on the city’s Northwest Side. Police say an argument erupted inside a vehicle, prompting a 35-year-old man to try to exit. At that point, he was shot by someone else in the car. The shooter immediately fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended.
A second deadly incident occurred nearby, also on Saturday afternoon. A 46-year-old man sitting in his vehicle near Humboldt Park was shot in the head. After the shooting, his car crashed into another vehicle and struck a pole. Emergency responders transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect responsible for this shooting remains at large as well.
The violence extended beyond these fatal encounters. In the Humboldt Park area, two more individuals were shot near a homeless encampment—one of whom sustained critical injuries. The perpetrator in this case is also unidentified and at large. Meanwhile, on the South Side, two people were shot while sitting in their home. As with the other incidents, the assailant immediately left the area, and no arrests have been reported.
Recent statistics underscore the scale of the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence. According to the Chicago Tribune, 139 homicides have been recorded in the city so far in 2025. By comparison, 573 people lost their lives to homicide in Chicago during 2024.
Authorities point to broader crime trends contributing to the spike. Just last week, two Venezuelan nationals living illegally in Chicago were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in connection with a December mass shooting that left three dead and five wounded. Law enforcement officials suspect both men are members of the Tren de Aragua street gang, a violent criminal organization with origins in Venezuela. More than a dozen suspected members of the gang have been detained during the course of the investigation.
Calls for enhanced public safety measures and changes to city policy have intensified amid the string of violent incidents. Fox News Digital has reached out to both the mayor’s office and the Chicago Police Department for comment, as residents and community leaders demand action in response to the ongoing bloodshed.
