China Calls for Immediate and Lasting Ceasefire in Gaza to End Violence
China calls for urgent and permanent ceasefire in Gaza to restore peace and stability

China has called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the urgency of alleviating the deepening humanitarian crisis in the region. The statement came from Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during a tense UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday. Fu addressed the international community, warning that the ongoing violence is inflicting enormous suffering on civilians and escalating instability in the Middle East.
The recent escalation in Israel’s military operations in Gaza, which began on May 16, has led to severe devastation in densely populated urban areas. According to reports, more than 1,000 Gazan civilians have lost their lives in just the past two weeks. Despite a series of Security Council and General Assembly resolutions demanding an immediate halt to hostilities, fighting continues unabated. This persistent conflict has not only devastated infrastructure but also left residents vulnerable to deteriorating living conditions, limited access to essential supplies, and mounting casualties.
Fu Cong emphasized that “extending the conflict will not lead to the release of hostages; it will only result in more death and hatred.” He underscored that adherence to international humanitarian law is a binding obligation for all sides involved. Fu called on Israeli authorities to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance, safeguard civilian facilities, and protect aid workers operating within the Gaza Strip.
The Chinese envoy pressed for Israel to immediately stop all military operations, lift its blockade, and restore access for humanitarian supplies. He highlighted the importance of international organizations—particularly the United Nations—in delivering critical aid to those in need and called for full support of their efforts.
Fu warned against any moves to annex Gaza or the West Bank, stressing that both are inseparable components of a future Palestinian state. He urged the global community to oppose forced displacement of Gaza’s population and called on the United States to show greater responsibility and fairness by taking concrete actions in pursuit of peace.
The Chinese representative reaffirmed his government's stance that the implementation of a “two-state solution” is the only feasible path toward resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Fu concluded with a commitment that China would remain engaged with the wider international community to end the hostilities in Gaza, alleviate the humanitarian disaster, and work towards a comprehensive, just, and enduring solution, aiming to restore peace and stability across the Middle East.
