China Calls for Immediate and Lasting Ceasefire in Gaza to Ensure Regional Stability
China calls for an urgent and enduring ceasefire in Gaza to de-escalate violence.

China has called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, urging the international community to take urgent action to end the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region. Addressing a United Nations Security Council meeting on Wednesday, China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, stressed the dire need to halt hostilities and ease the suffering of civilians caught in the crossfire.
The renewed plea comes as Israel has intensified its military operations in Gaza since May 16, leading to widespread devastation in densely populated urban areas. In the past two weeks alone, over 1,000 Gazan civilians have lost their lives, underscoring the mounting toll on families and communities. Despite several resolutions passed by both the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly demanding an immediate ceasefire, fighting has continued and casualties have steadily increased.
Fu Cong delivered a pointed warning that "extending the conflict will not lead to the release of hostages; it will only result in more death and hatred." He further called on all parties to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law and specifically urged Israel to guarantee safe and unhindered access for humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza. The envoy emphasized the importance of protecting civilian infrastructure and ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers operating in the crisis zone.
Reiterating China's position, Fu demanded the immediate cessation of all Israeli military operations in Gaza, the lifting of the blockade, and the full restoration of humanitarian aid access. He voiced support for the critical role played by organizations, including the United Nations, in delivering emergency assistance to those most affected by the ongoing conflict.
Fu also highlighted that both Gaza and the West Bank are integral parts of a future Palestinian state. He cautioned against any moves aimed at annexing territory or forcibly displacing Gaza’s population, declaring that such actions would be strongly opposed by the international community. Additionally, he called on the United States to adopt a fair and responsible stance, urging it to back practical measures to de-escalate the crisis and promote long-term peace.
The Chinese envoy concluded by reaffirming his country's commitment to the implementation of the two-state solution, describing it as the only realistic path towards resolving the long-standing Palestinian issue. China, he pledged, will continue working alongside global partners to end the violence in Gaza, address the humanitarian catastrophe, and strive for a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution that brings stability to the Middle East.
