China Calls for Urgent and Sustainable Ceasefire in Gaza to Promote Peace and Stability
China calls for urgent and lasting ceasefire in Gaza to end escalating conflict.

China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza at a United Nations Security Council meeting held on Wednesday, underscoring the urgency of addressing the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
The ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, which have intensified since May 16, have resulted in the extensive destruction of densely populated neighborhoods. In just the past two weeks, it is reported that more than 1,000 civilian lives have been lost, adding to the mounting death toll since the escalation began. Despite the adoption of multiple resolutions by both the Security Council and the General Assembly demanding an immediate ceasefire, active hostilities have continued to devastate the enclave.
During the session, Fu Cong warned that, "Extending the conflict will not lead to the release of hostages; it will only result in more death and hatred." He strongly emphasized the legal and moral imperative for all parties involved to adhere to international humanitarian law. Fu urged Israel to facilitate humanitarian aid, specifically calling for the protection of civilian infrastructure and humanitarian personnel operating amid the violence.
The Chinese envoy pressed for an immediate halt to all military activities by Israel and demanded the lifting of the blockade on Gaza, insisting that full and unhindered access for humanitarian supplies be restored. He also voiced support for international aid organizations, including the United Nations, highlighting the critical role they play in mitigating the crisis on the ground.
Fu also drew attention to the political dimensions of the conflict, asserting that Gaza and the West Bank are integral components of a future Palestinian state. He called upon the global community to resist any attempts at annexation or forced displacement of Gaza’s population, warning that such actions would undermine prospects for peace. Furthermore, he urged the United States to adopt a more equitable posture and to take concrete steps in support of de-escalation and humanitarian relief.
Reiterating China’s support for the "two-state solution," Fu described it as the only viable avenue to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to working alongside the international community to end the hostilities, alleviate the suffering of civilians, and lay the groundwork for a comprehensive, fair, and enduring resolution to the decades-long issue. China, he noted, will continue to advocate for measures that promote stability, security, and peace across the Middle East.
