China Calls on U.S. and Allies to End Misinformation on Maritime Disputes
Chinese Foreign Ministry condemns US, Japan, Australia, and Philippines for joint statement on maritime cooperation targeting China

A spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday voiced strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to a recent joint statement released by the United States, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines, which announced increased maritime defense cooperation aimed at countering China's activities in regional waters.
During a regular press conference in Beijing, spokesperson Lin Jian responded to questions about the joint statement that was issued following the defense chiefs' meeting on May 31 at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. Lin accused the U.S. and its allies of "hyping up the so-called China threat" and "stoking confrontation" specifically over the contested areas in the East China Sea and South China Sea.
Lin emphasized that China has made serious diplomatic representations regarding the joint statement, underscoring Beijing's disapproval of what it views as heightened tensions instigated by external powers. He highlighted that bloc politics and group confrontation represent a Cold War mentality, asserting such approaches are outdated and out of step with current regional dynamics.
According to Lin, these actions are not conducive to resolving existing disputes and will have no effect in intimidating China or altering its determination. "Such actions will not solve any problems, nor will they intimidate China," he insisted, reinforcing Beijing's position on safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
Lin called on the United States and its allies to cease what he described as the smearing and distortion of China's intentions and activities in the region. He urged the countries involved to stop forming what he termed exclusive cliques and allow regional states the opportunity to resolve disputes through direct dialogue and consultation, rather than through external interference.
The spokesperson concluded by emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific, warning against actions that could undermine the region's shared aspirations for harmony and mutual development.
