China Offers Support to Strengthen Pakistan-Afghanistan Relations
China welcomes Pakistan-Afghanistan diplomatic upgrade to ambassadorial level.

China has expressed firm support for the recent escalation in diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following both countries’ move to upgrade their relations from the chargé d'affaires level to full ambassadorial status. During a regular press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian welcomed this development, describing it as a significant step forward in fostering regional stability and encouraging further dialogue.
“As the region faces evolving security and economic challenges, enhancing communication between Pakistan and Afghanistan is crucial for mutual trust and cooperation,” said Lin Jian. He emphasized that China is prepared to continue playing a constructive role in bolstering the improvement and deepening of relations between its two neighboring countries. According to Lin, such developments are particularly important in light of recent informal meetings of foreign ministers from China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan held in May, which laid the groundwork for closer trilateral engagement.
Lin also highlighted the wider impact of this diplomatic upgrade, stating that renewed efforts between Pakistan and Afghanistan are essential for maintaining peace and stability across the region. He called the move “an important and positive measure” for demonstrating commitment to previously agreed outcomes and for strengthening collaborative mechanisms in South and Central Asia. The spokesperson noted that enhanced cooperation could support more effective management of shared security concerns, cross-border trade, and infrastructure connectivity.
Looking ahead, China signaled its intention to work closely with both nations to ensure continued progress. Lin reiterated Beijing’s willingness to partner with all regional stakeholders, including Pakistan and Afghanistan, “to jointly maintain peace, stability, and development in the region.” He reaffirmed China’s long-standing commitment to building “a community with a shared future with neighboring countries,” underlining the belief that diplomatic progress among neighbors plays a pivotal role in shaping the broader landscape of regional prosperity and security.
