China’s Export Control Measures Align with International Norms, Says MOFA

China’s recent export control measures are consistent with international standards and are not directed against any particular nation, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian. Addressing reporters at a regular press conference in Beijing on Friday, Lin emphasized that the policies are formulated with fairness and transparency in mind, aligning with widely recognized global practices.

When asked about distinctions between Chinese and U.S. export control regimes, Lin highlighted what he described as significant differences. He asserted that China’s controls are based on multilateral principles and existing global frameworks, rather than unilateral actions or discriminatory restrictions. “China stands ready to engage in more dialogue and cooperation with relevant countries and regions on export controls,” Lin stated, underscoring Beijing’s commitment to open communication.

The spokesperson further clarified China’s position regarding the impact of such measures on global economic systems, saying that the government remains dedicated to safeguarding the stability of international industrial and supply chains. He reiterated that Beijing’s approach aims to maintain balanced and healthy development in global trade and technology sectors, while respecting international rules.

Lin also directed criticism at the United States, accusing Washington of “stretching the national security concept” and using it as a pretext for broader economic and technological containment of China. He characterized these tactics as politicizing and instrumentalizing issues of commerce and science, rather than addressing legitimate security concerns. “China resolutely opposes this and will resolutely defend its legitimate rights and interests,” Lin added, signaling Beijing’s intent to push back against what it considers unjust restrictions.
