Chinese Foreign Minister Holds Talks with Chairman of Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council to Promote Regional Stability
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Thai Diplomat Surakiart Sathirathai at Hong Kong Mediation Convention Signing

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a significant meeting on Thursday with Surakiart Sathirathai, chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC) and former Thai deputy prime minister. The meeting took place in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, where Surakiart attended the signing ceremony for the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).
During the meeting, Wang Yi—who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee—emphasized the importance of the new initiative. He highlighted that China's move to establish IOMed opens an innovative path for the international community to resolve disputes and achieve reconciliation voluntarily. According to Wang, this effort represents not only a practical step in upholding multilateralism but also embodies the core principles of the United Nations Charter.
Wang further stressed China's readiness to deepen cooperation with neighboring Asian countries. He cited various regional frameworks, such as China-ASEAN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, as key partners in maintaining peace and stability. “Preserving Asia’s hard-won peace and ensuring lasting stability is a shared goal that requires collective commitment,” he stated, reaffirming China's willingness to work closely with its Asian counterparts.
Surakiart Sathirathai expressed his gratitude for being invited to witness the signing of the IOMed convention in Hong Kong. He described the Chinese-led initiative as “timely,” especially given the current complexities of the global situation. Surakiart said the APRC values this development and looks forward to strengthening collaboration with China to promote peace and development across Asia.
Both parties agreed that the newly established IOMed has the potential to become a pivotal mechanism for non-coercive dispute resolution. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to further strengthening ties between China and the broader region, paving the way for enhanced cooperation on regional and international security challenges.
