Chinese Mainland Reinforces Commitment to Promoting Cross-Straits Exchanges
Chinese mainland pledges to enhance cross-strait cooperation to benefit compatriots on both sides.

The Chinese mainland has reiterated its commitment to deepening exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Straits, highlighting the importance of fostering benefits for people on both sides. During a recent press briefing, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stressed that public sentiment in Taiwan largely favors peace and development, including greater interaction and collaboration with the mainland.
"The desire of people across the Straits to strengthen bonds and the enthusiasm of Taiwan compatriots to participate in events like the Straits Forum cannot be suppressed," Chen stated, underscoring the strong grassroots support for cross-Straits engagement. He also revealed that preparations for the 17th Straits Forum are underway, with further details to be disclosed soon. Since its launch in 2009, the forum has become a cornerstone event, providing a vital platform for dialogue and partnership between people from both sides.
Chen took aim at the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan, criticizing recent measures to restrict attendance by Taiwan residents at the upcoming forum. He described these actions as an attempt to disrupt people-to-people exchanges and cast doubt on the sincerity of recent statements made by Taiwanese leader Lai Ching-te about engaging with the mainland. "This once again exposes their malicious intent to suppress people-to-people exchanges and proves that Lai Ching-te's claims of willingness to engage with the mainland are nothing but empty words," Chen emphasized.
In addition to cultural and social exchanges, Chen addressed the issue of direct sea passenger routes, stating that resuming full transportation links would greatly facilitate travel and deepen connections. "There are no obstacles from the mainland side," he noted, adding that all necessary preparations have already been completed to restart these routes.
Chen called upon the island’s authorities to listen to the voices of the public and industry stakeholders and to promptly reopen these vital channels for cross-Straits interaction. He affirmed that the mainland remains ready and willing to support any efforts that promote peace, stability, and mutual prosperity in the region.
