Chinese Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Vietnam during a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the ASEAN-China-GCC Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, where discussions focused on advancing bilateral ties toward greater quality and depth.

Li emphasized that China is prepared to work closely with Vietnam to implement the outcomes of recent high-level engagements. He referenced the state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Vietnam earlier this year as a pivotal moment that set forth a new roadmap for the countries’ cooperation. According to Li, both sides had agreed to accelerate efforts in building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future, guided by six key principles designed to strengthen mutual trust and collaboration.

Against the backdrop of increasingly complex global dynamics, Li assured that China will uphold its policies of openness and development. He expressed China’s willingness to deepen communication and expand practical cooperation with Vietnam across multiple sectors. The premier also highlighted the importance of working together to uphold international fairness, safeguard global economic and trade systems, and protect the interests of developing nations, particularly those in the Global South.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh echoed these sentiments, noting the historic significance of President Xi’s recent visit. He pledged Vietnam’s readiness to implement the consensus reached by top leaders from both countries and to bolster high-level exchanges going forward. Chinh reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation and identified areas such as trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges as priorities for future collaboration.

The Vietnamese leader commended the successful convening of the first ASEAN-China-GCC Summit and expressed a strong desire for further trilateral achievements, especially in areas promoting economic growth and regional stability. As both countries navigate a turbulent international environment marked by challenges and uncertainties, Chinh underlined the necessity for continued dialogue and coordination with China to firmly safeguard their shared rights and interests.

This latest meeting highlights the ongoing efforts by China and Vietnam to strengthen strategic alignment and foster regional cooperation at a time when geopolitical and economic shifts are reshaping Asia’s landscape. Both governments have signaled a clear intention to build on established momentum and deliver concrete outcomes that benefit their peoples and contribute to broader regional development.
