Chinese Premier Li Qiang underscored China's determination to deepen bilateral ties with Vietnam during a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the ASEAN-China-GCC Summit in Kuala Lumpur on May 27, 2025. Premier Li highlighted that China is eager to collaborate with Vietnam to elevate their comprehensive strategic cooperation to even “higher quality and deeper levels.”

According to Li, the two nations are poised to build upon the momentum generated by the recent state visit to Vietnam by Chinese President Xi Jinping. During that visit, both countries reaffirmed their intention to accelerate the construction of a China-Vietnam “community with a shared future,” identifying it as having strategic significance and guided by the mutual goals of the “six mores”—a development vision characterized by greater trust, prosperity, security, responsibility, respect, and wisdom.

Premier Li emphasized China's readiness to work closely with Vietnam in implementing the key outcomes of the state visit. He called for maintaining frequent high-level exchanges, deepening mutual political trust, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors, including trade, technology, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges.

Amid increasing global uncertainties and destabilizing factors, Li also reaffirmed China’s commitment to opening up and fostering development both regionally and globally. He noted China’s support for enhanced communication with Vietnam to jointly uphold international fairness and justice, safeguard the global economic and trade order, and protect the collective interests of countries in the Global South.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh echoed these sentiments, expressing Vietnam’s desire to work hand-in-hand with China to actively implement the high-level agreements achieved by the two nations’ leaders. He pledged to boost high-level exchanges and seek deeper practical cooperation, emphasizing that Vietnam values the “important consensus” reached between the parties.

Chinh extended congratulations to China on the success of the inaugural ASEAN-China-GCC Summit, underscoring Vietnam’s eagerness to partner with China for meaningful progress in trilateral cooperation involving Southeast Asia and Gulf countries. He acknowledged the complexity of the current international environment and affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to enhance coordination with China to protect legitimate rights and interests.

Both leaders concluded by emphasizing that their strengthened partnership will not only benefit their respective peoples but also contribute to stability and prosperity throughout the wider region.
