FM: China Supports Turkmenistan’s Push for Economic Diversification to Boost Growth

China has reiterated its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Turkmenistan, expressing readiness to support the Central Asian nation in its efforts to diversify its economy and modernize key sectors. In a phone conversation held on Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized Beijing’s intention to contribute actively to the development trajectories of both countries, highlighting economic cooperation as a central pillar.

During the discussion, Wang Yi acknowledged the ongoing high-level exchanges between China and Turkmenistan, which serve as important strategic guidance for the evolution of their comprehensive partnership. He underlined China’s consistent policy of treating all nations—regardless of size—as equals, and reaffirmed China’s longstanding approach of nurturing friendly relations founded on mutual respect and shared interests.

Wang stressed that the relationship with Turkmenistan is viewed from a strategic and long-term perspective, reflecting the importance China attaches to preserving and deepening its traditional friendship with Ashgabat. “As a responsible major country, China is steadfast in its principles of equality and mutual benefit,” Wang said, reinforcing Beijing's commitment to stable and unwavering diplomatic engagement with Turkmenistan.

For his part, Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov echoed the sentiment, noting the deep historical roots underpinning the two countries’ rapport. Meredov highlighted that Turkmenistan and China have established a comprehensive strategic partnership encompassing cooperation across various fields, a testament to the strong foundation supporting their bilateral relationship.

Meredov further expressed Turkmenistan’s support for several global initiatives championed by China, and conveyed his country’s willingness to maintain close coordination on multilateral issues. The conversation underscored the two sides’ shared interest in advancing regional stability and prosperity through collaborative efforts, signaling continued momentum in their diplomatic and economic engagement.
