Iran Announces No Change in U.S. Sanctions Stance Amid Ongoing Diplomatic Tensions
Iran reports no change in U.S. stance on sanctions amid ongoing diplomatic tensions.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that there has been no tangible change in the United States’ stance on sanctions, as negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program continue. Tensions remain high, with Iranian officials insisting that any deal must guarantee the removal of what they describe as “oppressive” economic measures.
During a weekly press conference held in Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei expressed disappointment in the lack of clarity from Washington. “I regret to inform you that the American side has not yet been willing to clarify this issue,” said Baghaei, referring to the critical matter of sanctions relief. He emphasized, “It must be clear to us how the oppressive sanctions against the Iranian people will be lifted, to ensure that past experiences are not repeated.”
The ongoing talks have gained further prominence following a visit by Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, who has been mediating between Tehran and the Trump administration. During a brief visit to Tehran on Saturday, Albusaidi delivered elements of a U.S. proposal aimed at bridging differences and paving the way for a new nuclear deal.
Last month, Iranian and U.S. delegations concluded their fifth round of negotiations in Rome. While diplomats noted some signs of limited progress, substantial obstacles remain. The issue of Iran’s uranium enrichment activities is among the most contentious points, with both sides so far unable to reconcile their positions.
As diplomatic efforts continue, the outcome of these negotiations could have far-reaching consequences for the Middle East and the broader international community. For now, officials in Tehran await a clear signal from Washington regarding the future of sanctions, which remain a central demand before any agreement can be reached.
