Iran Reports No Change in U.S. Sanctions Policy Despite Ongoing Tensions

Speaking during a weekly press conference in Tehran, ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stressed the importance of transparency from the U.S. side. "It must be clear to us how the oppressive sanctions against the Iranian people will be lifted, to ensure that past experiences are not repeated," Baghaei noted. He emphasized that so far, no significant shift in the U.S. position had been communicated, underscoring the seriousness with which the Iranian government regards the matter.
Key diplomatic efforts continue, with Oman playing a notable role in mediation. Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi recently visited Tehran, where he delivered the outlines of a U.S. proposal intended to advance talks. The Sultanate of Oman has long been seen as a trusted intermediary between Iran and Western powers, especially in light of persistent tensions over nuclear ambitions and regional security dynamics.
Recent negotiations in Rome, marking the fifth round of discussions between Iranian and American delegations, offered glimmers of progress but also highlighted the complexity of the issues at hand. Chief among these is the matter of Iran's uranium enrichment activities—a sticking point that has thwarted previous efforts to reach a durable agreement. While some mutual understanding has reportedly grown, officials on both sides admit that major disagreements remain that could stall or even derail a final deal.
