Iran Reports No Change in U.S. Sanctions Policy Despite Ongoing Tensions
Iran claims U.S. sanctions stance remains unchanged amid ongoing diplomatic talks.

An atmosphere of cautious optimism continues to surround the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, as both sides grapple with unresolved issues regarding economic sanctions and Iran's nuclear program. On Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry firmly stated that it is still waiting for clear signals from Washington on the possibility of lifting longstanding sanctions that have heavily impacted Iran's economy.
Speaking during a weekly press conference in Tehran, ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stressed the importance of transparency from the U.S. side. "It must be clear to us how the oppressive sanctions against the Iranian people will be lifted, to ensure that past experiences are not repeated," Baghaei noted. He emphasized that so far, no significant shift in the U.S. position had been communicated, underscoring the seriousness with which the Iranian government regards the matter.
Key diplomatic efforts continue, with Oman playing a notable role in mediation. Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi recently visited Tehran, where he delivered the outlines of a U.S. proposal intended to advance talks. The Sultanate of Oman has long been seen as a trusted intermediary between Iran and Western powers, especially in light of persistent tensions over nuclear ambitions and regional security dynamics.
Recent negotiations in Rome, marking the fifth round of discussions between Iranian and American delegations, offered glimmers of progress but also highlighted the complexity of the issues at hand. Chief among these is the matter of Iran's uranium enrichment activities—a sticking point that has thwarted previous efforts to reach a durable agreement. While some mutual understanding has reportedly grown, officials on both sides admit that major disagreements remain that could stall or even derail a final deal.
As both nations continue to navigate this diplomatic impasse, observers note that an eventual breakthrough could bring significant changes not only to bilateral relations but also to broader stability in the Middle East. For now, however, all eyes remain on Washington, as Iran waits for concrete measures and assurances that would pave the way for a mutually acceptable resolution.
