Iranian Official Urges U.S. to Acknowledge Tehran's Commitment to Reviving Nuclear Negotiations

A senior Iranian political official, speaking on Wednesday, called upon the United States to formally acknowledge Iran’s *genuine commitment* to dialogue during remarks on the latest round of indirect negotiations involving the two countries. The comments followed the conclusion of the fifth session of talks, which have taken place amid persistent disagreements over Iran’s nuclear program and the ongoing regime of international sanctions.

In an interview on the matter, the official—who requested anonymity—emphasized that Iran has demonstrated *flexibility and constructiveness* throughout the negotiations. He argued that if Washington is truly concerned about the peaceful intentions of Iran’s nuclear activities, it should support diplomatic engagement rather than aligning with Israel’s hardline stance on Iran’s nuclear industry. According to him, Iran’s main aims in engaging with the United States are to provide assurances regarding the peaceful nature of its atomic endeavors and to secure *substantial relief from economic sanctions*.

The official was sharply critical of what he described as a *contradictory approach* from the United States. He noted that U.S. officials routinely insist on a total shutdown of Iran’s nuclear sector, while at the same time failing to offer any viable or trustworthy proposals for lifting sanctions. “This contradiction,” he asserted, “has fundamentally shifted the nature of the dispute, leaving little foundation for meaningful dialogue or negotiation.”

Further, he accused Washington of deliberately stalling the talks by repeatedly demanding that Iran abandon uranium enrichment—a condition he described as *unacceptable under any circumstances*. The official insisted that enrichment is inseparable from Iran’s sense of national independence and sovereignty, remarking, “Defending our right to enrichment is, in fact, defending our national sovereignty and territorial integrity against any foreign threats or aggression.”

He also pointed to growing skepticism among international observers, many of whom now believe that U.S. engagement may be part of a broader *psychological campaign* rather than a sincere effort to reach a resolution. These suspicions, he said, are becoming increasingly justified as the negotiations continue without tangible progress.

Addressing the issue of sanctions specifically, the official expressed frustration with what he described as the U.S. government’s *apparent lack of authority* to lift the multi-layered barriers imposed on Iran’s economy. He claimed this legal and political challenge on the U.S. side has led to repeated delays, with American negotiators allegedly reluctant to put forward *realistic or actionable proposals*.
