Maduro's Partido Dominates Venezuela Elections Amid Major Political Shift
Maduro's party secures a sweeping victory in Venezuela's latest elections, solidifying its grip on power.

The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), led by President Nicolas Maduro, achieved a decisive victory in Venezuela's parliamentary and regional elections held on Sunday. According to the National Electoral Council (CNE), the PSUV secured 23 out of 24 state governor positions, reinforcing its already dominant presence across the country. In addition to sweeping the governorships, the party captured an overwhelming 82.68 percent of the votes cast in National Assembly party lists, signaling strong support among participating voters for Maduro’s government.
The results consolidate President Maduro’s grip on power at a time when Venezuela continues to face significant economic and political challenges. Observers note that the outcome is likely to have a major influence on the country's direction ahead of future presidential elections and ongoing dialogue with opposition factions. The near-unanimous victory at both regional and national levels further marginalizes opposition groups, many of whom had called for electoral reforms and greater transparency in the lead-up to the polls.
Despite the sweeping win for the ruling party, the CNE noted that voter turnout reached just over 42 percent of Venezuela’s 21 million eligible voters. This relatively low participation rate highlights ongoing voter apathy and skepticism about the electoral process, which has been the subject of criticism from both domestic actors and the international community in recent years. Questions remain about how the government will address these concerns in the post-election period as it looks to maintain legitimacy and stability in the face of persistent economic turmoil and international scrutiny.
