Man Who Attempted to Scale Mar-A-Lago Wall Wanted to Marry Trump’s Granddaughter and Spread the Gospel

Authorities in Palm Beach arrested Anthony Thomas Reyes, 23, in the early hours of Tuesday after he attempted to scale the wall at former President Donald Trump's Mar-A-Lago resort. According to the police, Reyes was apprehended at approximately midnight when Secret Service agents responded to perimeter alarms and found him on the property.

Reyes reportedly told law enforcement officials that his intent was to “spread the gospel” to the former president and to propose marriage to Trump’s teenage granddaughter, Kai. This incident marked at least the second time Reyes has attempted to access the high-security estate. He had previously been taken into custody during the New Year’s holiday for a similar attempt to enter Mar-A-Lago illegally, which also resulted in a police warning and record of trespassing.

At the time of the latest incident, President Trump was not present at the resort, as he was in Washington, D.C. Secret Service officials confirmed that no one was harmed during the intrusion and that Reyes was detained peacefully. “U.S. Secret Service personnel detained him without incident at the scene. Palm Beach Police officers responded to the scene and took the individual into custody, charging him with occupied trespassing,” a spokesperson stated.

Following his arrest, Reyes was initially charged with trespassing and granted a $1,000 bond. However, his bond was raised significantly to $50,000 amid concerns over the repeated nature of his unlawful entries. Local authorities indicated that federal charges could be added, reflecting the seriousness of breaching security at a property associated with a high-profile political figure.

Security at Mar-A-Lago has remained a point of scrutiny ever since Trump left office, with multiple incidents involving unauthorized entries or attempts to breach the perimeter. Officials have continued to urge vigilance and strict adherence to protocols to protect guests and staff at the exclusive club.

Reyes’s repeated attempts to enter the premises have raised questions about his motivations and mental state. While Palm Beach police previously cited him for trespassing on New Year’s Eve—during which Trump was present—Tuesday’s events mark an escalation, both in terms of his stated intentions and legal consequences. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine whether additional security measures may be needed to prevent future incidents at the resort.
