MyToronto Pay Deactivated: City Introduces Alternative Payment Options for Property Taxes and Utility Bills
Toronto officially decommissions MyToronto Pay platform amid procurement concerns, prompting residents to re-enroll in city’s official payment programs.

The City of Toronto has officially decommissioned the MyToronto Pay platform, ending its service for pre-authorized payments of property taxes and utility bills as of Monday. This move marks the conclusion of an initiative launched in 2022, which allowed Torontonians to conveniently manage their municipal payments through a digital platform powered by U.S.-based tech company PayIt.
The decision follows a critical auditor general’s report issued in October 2024, which highlighted significant concerns over the awarding process of the MyToronto Pay contract. The report found that the City’s unsolicited proposal policy had been disregarded, raising transparency and procurement issues. In response, City Council adopted recommendations to end the use of the platform at the expiration of its current contract, resulting in Monday’s decommissioning.
Residents who previously utilized MyToronto Pay for pre-authorized payments should note that no withdrawals have occurred since May 16. While pre-authorized payment options remain available through the City, those who used MyToronto Pay must now re-enroll in the official City program. To do so, property owners can access the City’s property tax lookup and utility account lookup tools online. After signing in with their bill information, eligible residents will see the option to enroll in pre-authorized payments—unless they are already enrolled in the City’s direct program, in which case no action is required.
For those who prefer other payment methods, options remain in place: online banking through financial institutions, payment by mail, or in-person transactions at Toronto City Hall or designated civic centre counters. These alternatives ensure that residents can continue to meet their payment obligations without disruption.
E-billing services will also continue unaffected. Individuals who subscribed to receive their bills via email through the City will keep receiving notifications and statements. Those previously registered for e-billing through MyToronto Pay have automatically transitioned into the City's e-billing system and should check for communications from [email protected] regarding their accounts.
Looking ahead, the City of Toronto is developing a comprehensive Payments Modernization Strategy designed to offer flexible, accessible, and modern payment solutions. According to city officials, this new approach aims to provide improved customer service by introducing more choices and a consistent payment experience. City staff are expected to deliver a detailed report on the strategy to Council by the fourth quarter of 2025, signaling a continued commitment to enhancing municipal payment systems with citizens’ needs at the forefront.
