Nectarine Harvest Boosts Rural Prosperity in Guizhou: A New Era of Agricultural Growth
Harvesting season kicks off in Guizhou as residents busy with nectarines to meet soaring market demand
The vibrant harvest season is underway in Longchang Town, located in the Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County of southwest China's Guizhou Province. Fields across the area are bustling with activity as residents work from dawn to dusk, picking, carrying, and carefully packing nectarines in preparation for eager markets nationwide. Local families and agricultural workers are united in their efforts, reflecting not only a time-honored tradition but also the growing economic importance of the region’s fruit industry.
In recent years, a strategic focus on agricultural modernization has transformed the landscape of Longchang Town. With guidance from local authorities, more than 3,000 mu (around 200 hectares) have been devoted to cultivating high-quality nectarines. The region's unique geographical and climatic conditions—marked by fertile soils and abundant sunshine—have proven ideal for the fruit’s development. By adhering to standardized planting techniques and employing scientific management, growers have succeeded in producing nectarines with exceptional sweetness and juiciness. As a result, these fruits have become highly sought after, with demand consistently outstripping supply during the peak marketing season.
The economic rewards of this agricultural focus are becoming increasingly apparent. Since 2024, nectarine yields have surged, and the harvest period now spans from May through August. For many local farmers, the income per mu (based on plots of 667 square meters) now exceeds 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,390), representing a substantial boost in household earnings. This steady increase in revenue has allowed families to reinvest in their farms, improve living standards, and contribute to the broader rural revitalization efforts within Guizhou Province.
Amid the rows of blossom-filled orchards, optimism is in full bloom. The nectarines of Longchang Town are quickly gaining recognition far beyond provincial borders, positioning the community as a model for sustainable rural development. As the harvest continues, hopes remain high that continued innovation and commitment to quality will further elevate the town’s fortunes in the seasons to come.
