Police Investigate Shooting Incidents at Two Adjacent Homes in Markham
Residents of Markham face heightened fears after two targeted shootings on the same street within a week, prompting police to intensify patrols and seek public help.

Residents in a quiet Markham neighbourhood are on edge after two neighbouring homes were targeted in separate shootings less than a week apart. York Regional Police (YRP) responded to the most recent incident on Friday, June 6, around 4 a.m., after multiple gunshots were reported near 16th Avenue and William Berczy Boulevard.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered several shell casings scattered outside the residence. Authorities noted that “visible damage had been caused to both the garage and a glass sliding door,” indicating the force and proximity of the gunfire. There were five people inside the house during the attack, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Just days before, a neighbouring home on the same street experienced a similar ordeal. In the early hours of May 31, around 2 a.m., surveillance cameras captured a dark-coloured, four-door vehicle approach the residence. Footage shows a suspect exit the vehicle and open fire before quickly fleeing the scene. As with the second shooting, people were inside at the time, but no physical harm was reported.
The vehicle used in the first incident has been described by police as a black Audi sport utility vehicle. Investigators believe that both shootings were targeted attacks rather than random acts of violence, though they continue to look into possible motives and any connections between the two cases.
The back-to-back nature of these incidents has left local residents deeply concerned about safety in their community. Authorities have stepped up patrols in the area and are urging anyone with additional surveillance footage or information to come forward, emphasizing that public assistance could be crucial to advancing the ongoing investigation.
