Police Investigate Vehicle Crash Into Cirque du Soleil Arena in Vancouver
Miracle at Pacific Coliseum as car crashes into venue with no injuries amid ongoing investigation into driver’s mental health

VANCOUVER — Authorities are calling it a “miracle” that no one was injured after a car plowed into the front entrance of the Pacific Coliseum on Thursday evening, as hundreds of attendees gathered inside for a Cirque du Soleil performance.
According to police, the incident occurred just after 8 p.m., sending patrons and staff into a brief panic. The vehicle smashed through the main doors of the historic arena, but fortunately came to a stop without hitting anyone in the lobby area. Emergency responders swiftly secured the scene while show organizers worked to maintain calm among those inside.
Police confirmed that a 30-year-old Vancouver man believed to be the driver was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act. Investigators emphasized that at this stage, there is no evidence suggesting the crash was an act of terrorism or connected to any ongoing threats. “There is no indication that this was a targeted attack,” officials stated.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed his relief in a statement shared on social media, offering thanks that no injuries were reported. He acknowledged both the prompt response by first responders and the good fortune that prevented a potential tragedy.
Sgt. Steve Addison addressed public concerns by clarifying that authorities do not believe Thursday’s incident is related to the recent attack at the Lapu Lapu Day Festival in April, an event that claimed 11 lives and left dozens more injured in a devastating ramming attack. Despite heightened sensitivity following that tragedy, police moved quickly to rule out any direct connection between the two events.
The Pacific Coliseum, a beloved venue in East Vancouver, has temporarily increased security patrols but remains open for scheduled events. Police say their investigation is ongoing, with additional mental health resources being offered to those affected by the incident. Detectives encourage anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward as the review continues.
