Police Secure Judicial Authorization to Identify Escaped Youth from Detention Facility

Authorities have launched an intensive search after securing judicial authorization to publicly identify a 17-year-old who escaped from a Brampton detention facility last Friday. Lucas Nyilas, of Toronto, is being sought by multiple police agencies after allegedly fleeing lawful custody while facing significant charges, including human trafficking and armed robbery.

The escape occurred at the Cuthbert House Open Detention facility, located in the area of Nelson Street West and Main Street South, at approximately 11:45 a.m. on May 30, 2025. According to investigators, Nyilas managed to elude staff supervision and leave the premises, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. His disappearance has raised concerns due to the serious nature of the accusations he faces.

Nyilas is currently wanted for escape lawful custody, and police agencies across southern Ontario have issued additional warrants for his arrest. Both the Waterloo Regional, Peel Regional, and Hamilton police services are collaborating on the search, as Nyilas is believed to have connections or prior activity in their respective jurisdictions.

At the time of the incident, Nyilas was being detained on two separate sets of charges originating with the Toronto Police Service. These include human trafficking and multiple counts of robbery with a firearm, underlining the urgency and seriousness of locating him quickly. Authorities urge the public not to approach Nyilas if seen and instead to contact police immediately.

Described as approximately five foot seven inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds, with a medium build, Nyilas has brown hair styled in a buzz cut and is clean shaven. He was last observed wearing a blue hoodie and red track pants at the time of his escape. Police note that the youth is known to frequent the Etobicoke area, and patrols have been increased in the neighborhood to aid in the ongoing search.

Police continue to appeal for information regarding Nyilas’s whereabouts. Investigators emphasize that anyone assisting him could face legal consequences, while reiterating that public safety remains their top priority during this ongoing operation.
