Premier Li Announces China's Readiness to Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Ties with Kuwait for Steady Development

Chinese Premier Li Qiang underscored China’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Kuwait on Monday, expressing readiness to collaborate further for the “steady development of bilateral ties.” The remarks came during a high-level meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of Kuwait, as regional leaders convened for the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.

Li highlighted the strong economic complementarity between China and Kuwait, emphasizing that both countries have “broad prospects for cooperation.” He pointed out that China is willing to strengthen the alignment between its Belt and Road Initiative and Kuwait’s ambitious “Kuwait Vision 2035,” aiming to spur collaboration in vital sectors such as energy, investment, the green and digital economies, and artificial intelligence. These initiatives, Li said, are expected to create new opportunities for shared benefits and growth.

The Chinese premier also advocated for greater cultural and people-to-people exchanges, encouraging joint efforts in education, tourism, and other social sectors. Such exchanges, he noted, would facilitate more frequent personnel interactions and foster a deeper friendship between the two nations.

Amid growing concerns about unilateralism and trade protectionism across the globe, Li reaffirmed China’s dedication to working closely with Kuwait on multilateral platforms including the United Nations and the China-GCC Summit. He called for enhanced coordination to support fair global governance, pressing for efforts that “contribute to world harmony, stability, development and prosperity.”

Crown Prince Al-Sabah expressed his appreciation for China’s longstanding support of Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Reiterating robust backing for the one-China principle, Al-Sabah affirmed Kuwait’s support for China’s stances on issues critical to its core interests. He further stated that Kuwait attaches “great importance” to its ties with Beijing and voiced eagerness to unlock new avenues for cooperation, particularly in areas that remain underdeveloped in the current partnership.

Al-Sabah also reiterated Kuwait’s willingness to deepen engagement not only bilaterally but also at the regional level within the Gulf Cooperation Council. He expressed intent to expand and strengthen people-to-people ties, while jointly advancing communications and coordination on regional and global affairs with China. Both leaders stressed their commitment to elevating their bilateral relationship to new heights amid evolving dynamics in the Middle East and Asia.
