Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Beijing on Wednesday, marking another chapter in the robust diplomatic ties between the two nations. The meeting, held during Lukashenko’s latest visit to China, underscored the growing importance of Sino-Belarusian relations in a complex international environment.

During their discussions, President Xi offered his personal congratulations to Lukashenko on his recent reelection, affirming that China and Belarus are “true friends and good partners”. “We treat each other with sincerity and trust,” Xi emphasized, pointing to the historical foundation and deep political mutual trust that has characterized the relationship for decades.

Highlighting the enduring friendship and the increasing breadth of cooperation between their countries, Xi noted that China always approaches its partnership with Belarus from both a strategic and long-term perspective. He stressed the willingness of China to work closely with Belarus to sustain the momentum of steady bilateral development and win-win cooperation, especially as both nations seek new opportunities in trade, investment, and technological innovation.

Xi further called for enhanced collaboration within key multilateral organizations such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He urged both sides to “jointly oppose hegemony and bullying” and to “safeguard international fairness and justice,” a message widely interpreted as a call for deeper unity against unilateralism in global affairs.

For President Lukashenko, this visit marks his fifteenth official trip to China, a statistic that underlines the significance Belarus places on its eastern ally. Lukashenko expressed his appreciation for China’s unwavering support and recognized the trust that has been established over years of engagement. “Belarus has a high degree of trust in China,” he declared, pledging to push forward with new projects and exchanges.

The Belarusian leader lauded China as “an example for the world” in its commitment to multilateralism, its consistent opposition to unilateral sanctions, and its determination to resist external pressure. Lukashenko voiced admiration for China’s international role and strongly affirmed Belarus’s readiness to work side by side with China in defending global fairness and justice.

The high-level talks in Beijing are expected to result in strengthened collaboration across multiple sectors and provide an impetus for closer bilateral ties at a time of shifting geopolitical dynamics. Both leaders departed the meeting with renewed vows to expand cooperation and to advocate for a more equitable international order.
