Richmond Hill Businesses Vandalized with Anti-Iranian Graffiti, Authorities Investigate
Richmond Hill police investigate anti-Iranian graffiti spree targeting local businesses and transit sites, urging community help to catch suspect.

Authorities in Richmond Hill have launched a probe into a string of incidents after a series of “hate-motivated” messages were discovered spray-painted on the walls of a grocery store and several businesses. The alarming acts of vandalism were reported over the weekend at a busy plaza near the intersection of Yonge Street and 16th Avenue, drawing the attention of the York Regional Police's hate crime prevention unit.
According to investigators, officers responded to the initial call early Saturday morning, only to learn that three additional businesses within the same shopping complex had also fallen victim to similar graffiti. The messages, described as anti-Iranian in nature, sparked immediate concern among business owners and residents alike, who expressed dismay at the targeted acts against members of their community.
The wave of vandalism appeared to extend beyond the plaza, with police confirming yet another incident at a bus terminal located near Yonge Street and Highway 7. Surveillance footage and witness statements suggest a single suspect was responsible for all four episodes, operating under cover of darkness in the early hours of Saturday as he moved systematically between locations.
Authorities provided a detailed description of the individual sought in connection with these crimes: a white male, approximately five feet 10 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds, with a thin build and short brown hair. Notably, the suspect is believed to be left-handed. At the time of the incidents, he was observed wearing a green long-sleeve button-down shirt, skinny blue jeans featuring an acid-wash effect on the thighs, and black shoes.
The hate crime prevention unit is appealing to the public for assistance as the investigation continues. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area is urged to come forward. Police emphasize the importance of community vigilance, reassuring residents that they are making this case a top priority and will pursue all leads in order to bring the perpetrator to justice.
