Surveillance Footage Captures Gunman Opening Fire on Markham Residence: Authorities Seek Clues
York Regional Police Launch Targeted Shooting Investigation After Markham Home Hit by Gunfire

York Regional Police are conducting an active investigation after a Markham residence was struck by multiple rounds of gunfire in the early hours of the weekend. The incident has prompted concern among community members and authorities, as officers seek to determine the motive behind what they believe is a targeted attack.
At approximately 2 a.m. on May 31, police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of 16th Avenue and William Berczy Boulevard, not far from Kennedy Road. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed significant damage to the home’s garage door and discovered several shell casings scattered in front of the property. According to investigators, the residents were inside the home at the time but, fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Authorities released video surveillance footage that captured a dark-coloured, four-door vehicle arriving at the address prior to the gunfire. The footage shows a gunman exiting the vehicle and opening fire on the house before the driver rapidly flees the area. A second camera angle captured another perspective of the suspect vehicle as it departed, which police have identified as a black Audi sport utility vehicle.
Detectives believe this shooting was a deliberate and targeted act, although the specific motive has not yet been disclosed. Investigators are canvassing the neighbourhood and reviewing additional surveillance footage in hopes of gathering more evidence and identifying those responsible.
Police are urging anyone with further information or home security video from the area to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation. Community members are reminded to remain vigilant but reassured there is no immediate threat to public safety while the search for the suspects continues.
