Texas Driver Captures Dramatic Partial Overpass Collapse on Video
Driver captures startling footage of partial overpass collapse on I-27 near Tulia, Texas.

Drivers traveling on Interstate 27 in Tulia, Texas, experienced a sudden and frightening moment this week when a section of an overpass partially collapsed after being struck by a tractor-trailer. The incident was captured on video by Leonel Vasquez, who was driving with his brother just below the overpass at the time of the accident. “It felt like something straight out of a movie,” Vasquez said, describing the shock as debris fell from above.
According to authorities, the tractor-trailer was hauling a crane when it collided with the overpass shortly before noon. The impact left a large portion of concrete dangling precariously while dust and smaller pieces rained down onto the highway. Sergeant Adrian Briseno of the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that the striking force of the heavy equipment against the infrastructure led to the partial collapse.
Miraculously, the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported, though several drivers witnessed the collapse unfold and were forced to veer away to avoid falling debris. Emergency crews arrived quickly, and law enforcement closed off the affected portion of I-27 as a precautionary measure. Experts are currently assessing the structural integrity of the remaining overpass sections.
The closure of the overpass has prompted detours and delays for local traffic. Tulia, located about 50 miles south of Amarillo, frequently sees large commercial vehicles, making safety inspections and structural maintenance a top priority for the region’s transportation officials. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution in the area until further notice.
This incident has reignited concerns about the proper clearance of oversized loads and the need for enhanced monitoring of heavy vehicles on Texas highways. Investigations into compliance with permit regulations for oversized hauls are ongoing. Transportation officials have not yet announced when the overpass will reopen, emphasizing that public safety remains their highest priority.
