Texas Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Jet Ski Hit-and-Run Crash
Suspect apprehended in connection to Memorial Day jet ski crash that killed 18-year-old Ava Moore in Texas.

Police in Grapevine, Texas announced Tuesday that an arrest has been made in connection with the death of Ava Moore, an Air Force cadet candidate who died over Memorial Day weekend. Authorities said Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez has been taken into custody as the suspect linked to Moore's death. The apprehension was a result of collaboration between Texas Game Wardens, the Grapevine Police Department, and several other agencies including the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Dallas Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations.
The incident occurred when Moore was fatally struck by a jet ski while on Grapevine Lake. According to investigators, a passenger from the jet ski stayed at the scene, but the operator allegedly fled the area with an unidentified male. During their attempt to escape, their vehicle reportedly crashed, further complicating the investigation. Police have stated that they are treating the case as an alleged hit-and-run and are actively pursuing leads regarding both the personal watercraft operator and the driver involved in the subsequent crash.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward, as the investigation remains ongoing. "Our thoughts are with Ava’s family and friends during this difficult time," officials said, adding that efforts to ensure safety on public waters will continue.
Moore was just weeks away from realizing her goal of joining the military. She had been accepted for Air Force basic training and was at home in Texas visiting family for the holiday weekend. Friends and mentors described Moore as a driven individual and an outstanding athlete, having played basketball at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado.
Her coach, Ke’sha Blanton, described Moore as an inspiration to those around her. "You know, we talked throughout the course of the year that at some point in her career she was going to be a four-star general because she loved it," Blanton remarked. "She made those around her better." Blanton expressed deep sorrow and anger at the loss, stating, "They took a bright, bright star from our lives."
The U.S. Air Force Academy also confirmed Moore’s passing in a statement, emphasizing her leadership qualities and positive influence on her peers. Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, the academy superintendent, wrote, "Ava’s constant happiness and attitude helped her squadron get through the challenges of the Prep School... Our team is focused on providing support to Ava’s family, her Prep School Squadron, the Prep School Women’s Basketball team, and the entire Academy family."
At this time, the Grapevine Police Department has not issued further statements or responded to additional requests for comment. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather more details surrounding the tragic incident.
