Texas Video Captures High-Speed Chase That Recovered Escaped Louisiana Inmates; Police Apprehend Alleged Accomplice

Texas authorities have released dramatic video footage capturing the pursuit and arrest of two inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail on May 16. The inmates, identified as Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald, were apprehended in Walker County, Texas, late Monday following a high-speed chase involving several law enforcement agencies.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the Texas Department of Public Safety led the operation to capture the fugitives after they were spotted driving erratically. Dashcam video released shows the suspects' vehicle traveling in the wrong direction before officers managed to stop the car. Body-camera footage further reveals the tense moments when authorities extracted the men from the SUV, with one inmate pulled through the passenger window as officers worked quickly to secure both suspects.

"The pursuit ended near US 190 and Geneva, where both subjects were taken into custody," stated the Huntsville, Texas Police Department. The swift multi-agency response was credited with bringing the dangerous situation to a close without injuries to the public or officers involved.

Tate and Donald were among ten inmates who managed to escape on May 16 from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their escape set off a massive manhunt that has involved multiple states and dozens of law enforcement personnel. Authorities report that both men face serious charges. Jermaine Donald was originally held on counts of second-degree murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon, and obstruction of justice. Leo Tate was charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal carrying of a weapon, motor vehicle theft, and multiple drug-related offenses.

Authorities also confirmed that Lenton Vanburen, another escapee from the Orleans Justice Center, was captured on Monday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The search for the remaining escapees has led to a series of related arrests. On Tuesday, Daishanae Massey was booked on charges of accessory after the fact, accused of assisting one of the fugitives, Antoine Massey. In total, at least fourteen individuals have been arrested for allegedly aiding the escapees.

Despite recent arrests, law enforcement officials confirm that two men who broke out of the jail remain at large. The manhunt is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information about the fugitives’ whereabouts to contact local law enforcement immediately.
