Ukraine Reports 15 Injured in Russian Missile and Drone Attack on Kyiv

Russian forces launched a significant overnight assault on Kyiv early Saturday, firing a volley of ballistic missiles and drones at the Ukrainian capital. According to the Kyiv city military administration, at least 15 people were injured in what officials described as one of the most intense air attacks since the onset of the conflict.

The barrage targeted both residential and non-residential infrastructure across six out of Kyiv’s ten districts, resulting in widespread damage. Witnesses reported shattered windows and debris strewn across neighborhoods, with emergency crews working through the morning to assess the full extent of the destruction and attend to survivors.

Police confirmed that the wave of strikes hit a shopping mall, several apartment buildings, and an educational facility. Local residents described scenes of panic as sirens wailed throughout the night, forcing many to seek shelter in underground bunkers and metro stations.

In a statement, the Ukrainian Air Force detailed that Russia had deployed 14 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and 250 drones against targets in Ukraine, with Kyiv singled out as the primary objective. Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted six missiles and an overwhelming majority of the drones—245 in total—helping to prevent greater casualties and destruction.

This latest assault on the capital came just hours after Russian forces struck port infrastructure in Odesa, in Ukraine’s south. That attack involved two ballistic missiles and resulted in the deaths of three people, injuring six more, according to local officials in Odesa.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the escalation by urging the United States, Europe, and other allies to impose new, more stringent sanctions on Russia. “Only additional sanctions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy will force Moscow to cease fire,” Zelenskyy declared on the social media platform X, underlining the need for the international community to take decisive action in response to the ongoing assaults.

While the situation in Kyiv remains tense, authorities continue to assess damages and provide assistance to those affected by the overnight attack. The city’s military administration has called on residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols amid concerns of further strikes. The ongoing conflict shows no sign of abating, as both sides exchange increasingly intense attacks across multiple regions of Ukraine.
