China expressed its willingness to work alongside Niue to advance a fair, reasonable, cooperative, and win-win global climate governance system, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Wednesday. The remarks came as part of a high-level meeting in Xiamen, southeastern China, where Wang met with Niue's Premier and Foreign Affairs Minister Dalton Tagelagi. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

During the discussions, Wang Yi highlighted the significant progress achieved in China-Niue relations since diplomatic ties were established. Both nations elevated their partnership to a comprehensive strategic level in 2018, a move that has been marked by mutual respect and collaboration on development initiatives. Wang emphasized that this bilateral relationship stands as a model for equality and mutual benefit between countries of vastly different sizes.

Wang underscored that China is committed to transparent and open cooperation with Niue, reaffirming that such efforts are not aimed at any third party. He further praised Niue's steadfast support for the one-China principle and reiterated China's ongoing support for Niue's pursuit of an independent development path tailored to its unique national context.

Looking ahead, Wang called for deeper cooperation in critical areas such as infrastructure, green development, and climate change. He also encouraged greater people-to-people exchanges and invited more Chinese citizens to visit Niue, strengthening cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

Premier Tagelagi expressed Niue's eagerness to capitalize on the development opportunities presented by cooperation with China. He outlined plans to strengthen joint efforts in infrastructure, marine protection, cultural exchanges, tourism, and telecommunications, all aimed at furthering both nations' modernization goals. Tagelagi reiterated Niue's commitment to advancing the development of the South Pacific region in partnership with China.

He also stressed that Niue remains dedicated to safeguarding a fair and rules-based global trading system, working together with China under the principles of mutual respect and shared regional prosperity.
