Woman Charged After Man's Overdose Death Discovered in Planet Fitness Tanning Bed
Woman charged with drug offenses after Derek Sink's death from overdose found in tanning bed.

Authorities in Indiana have arrested a woman in connection with the tragic overdose death of a 39-year-old man, whose body was discovered inside a tanning bed at a Planet Fitness gym three days after he was last seen entering the facility. The disturbing find prompted an immediate investigation, ultimately leading police to the suspect, 41-year-old Heather Bradford.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reported that Bradford was taken into custody and faces charges including dealing a controlled substance resulting in death, narcotics possession, and two outstanding warrants from Morgan County. Police responded to the southside Indianapolis gym just before 8:30 a.m. on November 11, after staff discovered Derek Sink’s body in a tanning booth. According to police records, Sink had last been in contact with his family on November 8, and was reported missing on November 10.
Investigators from the Marion County Coroner’s Office determined that Sink died due to a drug overdose. The IMPD Overdose Death Task Force (ODTF) took charge of the case, employing a range of investigative strategies to trace the source of the drugs that led to Sink’s death. Their efforts identified Bradford as a primary suspect in the fatal incident.
On November 12, law enforcement located Bradford at a gas station in Mooresville, Indiana. ODTF investigators, in coordination with Indiana State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), arrested Bradford without incident. IMPD Chief Chris Bailey commented on the challenges faced by investigators, emphasizing, “These are extremely challenging and emotionally heavy investigations, but they are vital in our effort to combat the ongoing overdose epidemic.” He further noted that arrests like this underscore months of diligent work and inter-agency cooperation aimed at bringing justice to grieving families.
The tragic circumstances of the incident also prompted a response from Planet Fitness. In a statement, McCall Gosselin, chief corporate affairs officer, said, “At Planet Fitness, we have robust operational brand protocols in place, as the safety and well-being of our members is our top priority.” The franchise owner is reportedly working closely with authorities as the investigation continues.
Bradford remains in custody as legal proceedings move forward. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the ongoing impact of drug overdoses within the community and the importance of coordinated efforts to stem the tide of substance abuse-related tragedies.
