Woody Harrelson and Bill Maher's Cannabis Shop Targeted in Overnight Burglary

The Woods WeHo, a high-profile cannabis dispensary and lounge in West Hollywood co-owned by actor Woody Harrelson, comedian Bill Maher, and tennis legend John McEnroe, became the latest target of a brazen smash-and-grab burglary during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 17.

Surveillance video recorded around 4:30 a.m. shows five masked individuals forcefully breaking through the glass entrance of the luxury storefront. The dramatic footage, later shared online by cannabis industry executive Elliot Lewis, captures the thieves rifling through the store before escaping with roughly $2,000 to $3,000 worth of merchandise, according to statements from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The incident at The Woods WeHo reflects a concerning wave of organized retail crime that has swept through Los Angeles in recent months. These smash-and-grab burglaries have prompted outcry from business owners and the community alike, as many boutique shops and dispensaries struggle to find ways to protect their property. "Does nobody care about the people trying to build something up and they seem to only care about those trying to destroy," Lewis stated on social media, calling for a return to "common sense" approaches to crime prevention.

Alarmingly, authorities say the same group of suspects returned the following night to attempt another break-in, this time targeting ERBA Markets, a nearby dispensary partially owned by the same partners. During this attempted burglary, an armed security guard confronted the intruders and fired shots, causing the suspects to flee before they could take anything. No injuries were reported in the exchange.

Lewis, echoing the frustrations of many business owners in the area, emphasized the growing sense of vulnerability. "Shots fired! That's the only way to defend what's yours in the city of L.A.," he said, placing blame on what he described as "years of bad policy" that have emboldened criminals. He cautioned that the lack of consequences would inevitably lead to further violence if deterrents are not restored.

Investigators believe both incidents are connected, noting the strikingly similar clothing and build of all five suspects captured in surveillance images. The individuals involved remain at large, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department continues to pursue leads in their ongoing investigation.

As of yet, there has been no public comment from celebrity co-owners Harrelson or Maher regarding the break-ins. The high-profile nature of the targeted businesses has only amplified calls for increased security, tougher enforcement, and policy changes to address the apparent rise in organized theft throughout Los Angeles.
